The truck diesel Engine's Oil sump is a sheet metal component and plays a critical role in the HVH performance of the overall Engine. The six cylinder engine that was in the analysis was pressure lubricated alongside of scoops in the crank shaft. This continuously excites the sheet metal and the harmonic analysis of the oil sump is hence carried out for the frequency response of the sump. The natural frequencies of oil sump is taken care to not interfere with the other system natural frequencies too, primarily the very engines idling rpm . The thickness of the sheet metal and the forming of the same is iterated for optimum results. It was also recommended that additional vibration dampers will provide benefit in terms of material and weight saving in the design.
