When I was a young boy, I had the fortune to inherit an old computer. That computer took up most of my deskspace at the time, and was way to heavy for me to lift. However, after first sight of amber text on the screen, stating 'Hello Veine' I was hooked! I recall the pang of guilt the day it was replaced by the way more advanced (and much lighter) Atari 520 and 3&1/2" floppy discs! The BASIC I had started on the 8088 was continued with the Atari ST BASIC. My interest was even more intensified, when I found out that my favorite band, Tangerine Dream was using Atari, as well as another childhood hero, Garry Kasparov, that worked with Atari to release Chessbase as the first ever computerized version of storing and viewing chess games. These passions has never left me thougout the years, and my passion for computers and learning has just grown. It followed me through my years at high school and Computer Science at the University. Basic gave way for more high level languages, Pascal became the favorite during High School and at the University I learned Fortran and later C/C++. If nothing else, the University showed me just how wide the field is, and no one can master it all.My focus in my early career was HTML/CSS and a bit later serverside technologies as ASP and PHP followed, going from static to dynamic application. When moving from static sites to dynamic, security came in at an early as well. As long as the internet has existed, there has also been shady figures and organization wanting to destroy or get their filthy hands on data that they should not have. From there on out, focus has been on the ever developing internet field, always something new to learn, another venue to explore, all while still listening to Tangerine Dream, and dreaming about having time to time to really explore Chessbase.
