I am a “generalist” with degrees (MA, BA, and AS) in the areas of legal/law enforcement and administration of justice. I was privileged to bring all areas of my education and experience into the development of a new program for the Wichita Police Department’s violent crimes units, and serve as the Program Coordinator for the Victim Assistance Unit. One part of the initial development of that program charged me with improving the relationship between the police department and the community by adding a compatible specialized level of on-scene assistance to crime victims during specific police responses. The experience fine-tuned my work as a team member and tapped into my creative nature enabling me to provide flexible assistance to each unique situation. I was entrusted to troubleshoot emergency and non-emergency critical issues and seek out the most effective resolution. Beginning my career as a legal secretary then as a Legal Assistant/Paralegal instilled the importance of confidentiality and working independently for the successful accomplishment of high-pressure assignments in several areas of law that commanded a wide range of knowledge and skill sets. My legal education and experience served me well for transitioning to a law enforcement-based position with continued work in the court system as well as with private sector lawyers. I have transitioned back into the legal arena, and I feel like I've returned home after an intensive training residency in the war zone of law enforcement. The most successful component of my career overall has been the direct contact work with clients, which I consider to be the ultimate customer service skill. I was blessed to hone my customer service skills a bit further when I started a personal travel business (VRT Travel).
