Vera is an advocate for girls’ education and a teacher of English Language and Literature by profession. She is passionate about addressing and overcoming the social taboos related to menstruation, as well as standing for human rights. In the past 8 years, Vera has groomed more than 800 students to succeed in the Empowerment Program (CEP) Cameroon, and a trainer with the “True Love Waits” program. Through these initiatives, she has spurred young girls to focus on education and stand for their rights to the choice of a life partner when the time is right. She has educated five hundred teenage girls in the Adamaoua region on menstrual hygiene, and overcoming taboos associated to it. Vera has equally trained over two hundred young girls on the production of reusable sanitary pads. This has helped them to overcome the challenge of monthly purchasing, enabling them stay in school during menstruation and equipping them with the confidence to discuss issues on menstruation with ease.Vera believes that every child deserves an education and a chance to a good livelihood. Given that the privilege to go through formal education is not accessible to many girls and women in her community, her goal is to set-up a "Wellness and Skill Development " Centre where those not able to go through general education can be trained on basic life changing skills and income generating activities.Vera’s motivation stems from a strong desire to see women and girls leading improved lives, with access to necessary skills and guidance to fully explore their capabilities.
