I am employed by the Marine Institute as part of the INFOMAR team. Alongside our project partners at the Geological Survey of Ireland, we have undertaken one of the largest mapping projects in the world. You can find me offshore as both an online surveyor or data processor. In the office I am concerned with managing, analysing and processing bathymetric multibeam datasets arising from the INFOMAR project. I liaise and consult on equipment upgrades and tenders. In addition, I am involved with survey quality, positioning, and processing data on a continual and daily basis. In July 2013, I was awarded a MSc in Coastal Zone Management through the University of Ulster, my thesis looks at the offshore renewable industry in Ireland in the context of marine spatial planning. In May 2019 I took an 18 month career break, and with my husband and two children we sailed our steel ketch 'Danu' over 13,500nm. This adventure involved sailing down the west coat of Europe to Morocco, traversing the Atlas mountain in search of geological wonders. From Rabat we sailed to the Amazon to seek forgotten tribes, onwards to the north and the azure waters of the Caribbean, we surveyed and dived reefs, swam with sharks, hung out in my hammock and drank a few rums. Covid struck in March 2020 in the paradisal Island of Barbuda, so we returned, via 6 weeks in the Azores, home to Kinvara and the west of Ireland. More adventures will ensue.
