This internship provided a valuable learning experience in equipment reliability maintenance, with a primary focus on safety valves. These essential components play a critical role in safeguarding hydrocarbons underground, and any decrease in their reliability can lead to significant health, safety, and environmental risks.During the initial phase of my internship, I collaborated closely with equipment service providers to develop testing procedures, evaluate equipment quality results, and troubleshoot equipment failures. This process allowed us to update our testing and assembly procedures effectively. Subsequently, I participated in design reviews and shared my insights on equipment reliability, ensuring that our company practices aligned with legal and ethical standards.I documented my work through learning reports, which served as a means of communicating essential equipment vulnerabilities to a diverse production team of over 50 individuals. The use of universal language in these reports was crucial to enable the team to effectively monitor equipment health. Additionally, I dedicated part of my summer to enhancing an Excel-based Piston Pressure Tool. This tool incorporated multiple pressure, temperature, and depth inputs to calculate crucial pressures used in assessing valve health.The improved Piston Pressure Tool was then applied to a valve in a high-risk well, providing recommendations to extend its lifespan and safeguard approximately $80 million in production

During my internship at BP, I was a Wells Engineer working on the Integrity and Interventions Team, where my responsibilities primarily revolved around enhancing well and reservoir safety in the Gulf of Mexico. My main focus was to identify and address risks associated with our operations, thoroughly outlining the causes and potential consequences for each risk.To develop comprehensive risk management strategies, I diligently provided a minimum of three prevention or mitigation measures for each identified cause and consequence. My ability to communicate effectively using universal language played a crucial role in ensuring that the entire team comprehended the insights and collaborated successfully in brainstorming solutions.In addition to my work in risk assessment and mitigation, I took a proactive approach to understanding safety valve failures. I compiled and analyzed data related to the health of these critical components, continuously monitoring for changes and trends. By highlighting shifts in valve health, my efforts helped the team maintain better equipment oversight and make necessary operational adjustments to ensure the safety and integrity of our wells and reservoirs.

By grouping supports based on their location and gathering the necessary information for qualification in a more organized manner, I significantly reduced the time required to qualify 50-200 support packages. This resulted in a notable time savings of approximately 3-5 hours per package.In addition to improving operational efficiency, I actively expanded my knowledge of plant design through networking opportunities and by scheduling meetings with team leads. This initiative allowed me to enhance my understanding of the field and contribute more effectively to the team's efforts.As my internship neared its conclusion, I identified an opportunity to enhance the onboarding process for new hires and interns. To achieve this, I developed an Excel tool that compiled key plant design standards and documents. This tool served as a valuable resource, enabling individuals to quickly locate essential information, fostering greater collaboration among coworkers, and reducing the time needed to access required data by an impressive 35%.
