In this KA 2 project, we focus on Education for Sustainable Development. All lectures and seminars we wish to introduce will address issues connected with ESD. The target audience will be students of teacher education (TE), as all the partner institutions are specialised in teacher training. We belief that future teachers are the perfect multipliers for the important task of spreading the idea of a more sustainable and environment-friendly way of life. As we see the task of universities in the 21st century in combining teaching and research not only with the transfer of knowledge,but also with the renewal of our society, we consider our students as change agents. With our project we hope to contribute towards achieving the SDGs. At some of our partners, seminars on ESD are already part of the curriculum or at least part of the offer made to students. We will collaborate and to open the existing classes to students of all partner universities. In order to do so, we need to change the teaching format: Teaching will have to be virtual, and the classes will have to be delivered in English. We will develop a staff training framework, addressing both the general aspectsof design and implementation of Virtual Exchange in our context of ESD, but also adding a new component of how to mentor students in a virtual environment, enabling them to open up for the intercultural experience and for behavioral change, developing the attitude of a teacher as change agent. We will also develop a systematic material collection for pre-trained faculty on virtual intercultural mentoring with a focus on our "green" context. Participants will either earn a digital badge, or a micro credential for the curriculum we will develop. Show less

With L!VE Chile, a project sponsored by the Baden-Württemberg Foundation through BWSplus, we will introduce structured virtual cooperations with our partner, the Universidad de Concepción in Chile. We will also invite faculty and students from Concepción to spend time at PH Freiburg; but since we cannot expand this offer to all students that might be interested, we will also create courses that are taught together by faculty of PH Freiburg and Universidad de Concepción. The main focus of the internationalisation of TE lies on the enhanced professional development of teachers, comprehensive cooperation between local and international higher education institutions, joint teaching-learning programs, degrees and research, the creation of coherent curricula, and an increase in both student teachers’ and… Show more The internationalisation of teacher education (TE) and the creation of a European Higher Education Area (EHEA) are increasingly important aspects of European TE. The main focus of the internationalisation of TE lies on the enhanced professional development of teachers, comprehensive cooperation between local and international higher education institutions, joint teaching-learning programs, degrees and research, the creation of coherent curricula, and an increase in both student teachers’ and educators’ physical and virtual mobility. The internationalisation of TE can be achieved within the context of coherence, focussing on domains, subjects and phases of TE. Considering the rather weak coherence between educational structures and concepts within national TE systems, transnational coherence appears to be especially weak: The large diversity of European TE systems currently represents a central barrier for the physical and virtual mobility of student teachers and educators. A transnational approach to this issue seems promising in two ways: A systematic comparison of TE structures and concepts will provide deeper insights into current paradigms of coherence orientation in European TE. Building on this, a joint development and evaluation of teaching concepts and learning opportunities as good practice can be implemented.The project “ConnEcTEd”, funded by the EU (Erasmus + KA 203), aims at dealing with challenges to structural, conceptual, and transnational coherence in European TE in a collaborative way. ConnEcTEd also supports TE educators of participating universities by establishing transnational professional learning communities, providing knowledge about European TE systems, permitting access to professional training opportunities (e.g. video-tutorials, virtual scenarios), and by integrating a coherence orientation in their teaching. This will lead to a further enhancement of European TE and represents an important step towards a strengthened EHEA. Show less

Since 1998, the Pädagogische Hochschule Freiburg offers a very succesful german-french study programme for primary-school teachers in cooperation with the Université de Haute Alsace Mulhouse.
