Volunteering for 40 hours per week, I worked on numerous projects in Sri Lanka helping to promote positive mental health and wellbeing, as well as breaking stigma. I worked in two psychiatric hospitals, working on various wards including forensic, learning disabilities and geriatrics. I also worked in special needs projects, working with a variety of service users who had both physical and neurological disabilities. In this role, I overcame challenges such as language barriers, cultural sensitivity and a lack of resources. I also worked with post-war patients when shadowing a clinical psychologist, and also had workshops on meditation in therapy and working with trauma in Sri Lanka.

Lincoln, United Kingdom

Working with Lincolnshire Action Trust in their FIRST Centre at HMP Lincoln, I assist families when they come to visit the inmates. This mostly includes emotional support, but also involves answering any questions about the justice and prison system. One of my main jobs is to provide an induction to new families visiting, which includes paperwork documenting any issues or support they may need. In accordance with our partnership with Children in Need, I also complete observations of children and provide any necessary support for them, even simple things, such as providing colouring material, or reading to them.

First began my employment on BeautyWorld, where good communication was needed in order to hit sales targets of beauty products. I also provided excellent customer service, paying attention to each individuals needs in order to find the best product for them. I had to be observant, as we had high security risk products on display. I then moved to an Express store, where I am till-trained, as well as trained on stock checks. Some of my responsibilities include replacing stock and cleaning the store, while maintaining excellent customer service and rapport with them. My main role within the store is merchandising. I am responsible for switching the displays each week, in accordance with the plans given to me through head office. This requires good time management and organisation, as I am having to move large quantities of stock around customers.

Working Open Days and Offer Days for potential students to the university, my role is to give them a "students view" of the university, providing them with a less formal perspective of what they can expect if they join a course. I have to be knowledgable of the course for the year, as well as course fees and entry requirements, while being talkative and informative. I also give guided tours of the laboratories and explain some of the research the psychology department does and how they can get involved.

My primary role was as a Customer Service Operative. Here, communication, team-work and customer service were key. I provided mostly refunds and exchanges, but also dealt with customer complaints and phone-calls, as well as some minor security issues, such as contacting security. I also had to make announcements over the tannoy system, which require a clear voice and professionalism. Paperwork was also completed in regards to soiled/damaged/waste products.

Sold games, hardware and tech to meet certain targets. Offered expert advice to customers on what to buy, how to get the best deals etc.

I also worked here from October 2014 - December 2014. Primary role was working as a sales assistant, with weekly target goals of products that I had to sell. I also cleaned the store and re-organised the shelves, as well as being given the responsibility of decorating at christmas. I also worked in the stock-room, reorganising the shelves and testing pre-owned stock for reselling. This required meticulousness and a knowledge of the systems I was working with.
