Head Of Fundraising And Events
CurrentBase 51 has been supporting the young people of Nottingham since 1993 initially in response to the lack of sexual health provision for young people, and in recognition that young peoplesβ wellbeing is more than just addressing their physical health needs, but is about their whole person. Base 51 provides a safe space for people aged 11-25, with counselling, group support, a youth club, LGBTQIA support group, employability services, training, a kitchen providing vital meals (without our Summer programme many young people wouldnβt eat as they no longer have access to free school dinners), a laundry, a gym and more. According to the Youth Opportunities Index Nottingham ranks as the worst place to live if you are a young person, there are over 17,500 children living in poverty in the City wards, and with the ongoing cost of living crisis that number is set to rapidly increase; at Base 51 we are braced for a surge in demand for our services however government funding has recently been cut.I have been employed to:Build relationships with local businesses to create mutually beneficial partnershipsOrganise fundraising events throughout NottinghamIncrease funding to the charity
Head Of Fundraising
Event ManagementI organised the fundraising events for the charity. This included long-standing annual events such as the Loughborough Half Marathon, Coalville Colour Run, Loughborough Colour Run, Charity Ball, LWA Strictly Come Dancing and Yorkshire 3 Peaks Hike; I also researched, planned and launched new events. I solely organised the events end-to-end, including: budgets, marketing, traffic management, suppliers, sponsors, volunteers, logistics and evaluation. During UK lockdown I planned virtual events, such as virtual runs and online campaigns.Social Media & CommunicationI ran the social media for the charity: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn. We used the channels to raise awareness for domestic abuse and raise funds for the charity. I managed paid-for ads and engaged with followers. I designed the both hard copy and online marketing materials for events. I wrote and sent out a monthly newsletter. I have been interviewed on BBC Radio several times about domestic abuse and write press releases for local newspapers about the charity.Community and Corporate FundraisingI engaged with local businesses and community groups to promote LWA and bring in corporate and community donations; this is through face-to-face, email and telephone. I spoke at meetings to raise awareness for domestic abuse. I attended local networking meetings to build relationships with local companies. I applied for local charity grants for projects the charity undertakes (the CEO manages larger governmental grants).
Fundraising And Events Co-Ordinator
I was hired as a part-time Fundraising and Events Co-ordinator by LWA. I worked this role alongside my role at Broxtowe Borough Council.I managed the social media and marketing of the charity, brought in donations (including a Β£5k grant) and organised the events.
Civic And Communications Officer
Maternity cover contract.Event Management - My role was to organise the Civic events at Broxtowe Borough Council; the main event was the Freedom Parade which is a military parade throughout a town centre (location changes annually) - there are 150 soldiers, veterans and Uniformed Organisations with a crowd of 400 spectators. I also planned the Remembrance Day Parade, a highly visible event that involves a parade, church service and refreshments for VIP guests. Both parades required TTROs, risk assessments and working with stakeholders to ensure the event is safe. Another event I organised is the Civic Service, itβs attended by VIP guests, including the Lord Lieutenant, and I coordinated the event from end-to-end.Charity Events - I organised 2 charity events for the Mayor's chosen charity, the Golf Day and Charity Ball. The Ball has over 200 guests and musical entertainment; money is raised through a raffle and an auction - I sourced all the prizes through contacting local businesses and asking for their support; for the 2020 Ball I raised the highest amount of sponsorship in the history of the event. For both events I oversaw the budgets, from setting them to managing them during the planning process, and then writing finance evaluation reports after the event had taken place. Administration & Comms - I wrote the speeches for the Mayor for the events he attended, I also wrote copy for the advertising for the Civic events and I wrote all the invites. I line-managed a Civic Assistant, this involved weekly 1-2-1βs and monitoring their work. I planned 3 Twinning trips with Broxtoweβs Twinning towns - this included planning travel, itineraries and hotels. During the lockdown I wrote daily comms to the staff to increase morale. I performed adhoc tasks for the Communications Manager - such as researching sustainable event catering options, organising Team of the Year Award, sending out newsletters and benchmarking amongst other tasks.

My responsibilities included:Organising internal events - I managed the invitations, booking process, budget and seating plans. I liaised with the caterers to ensure the quality of the food and services is in line with our needs. I attended all the events to ensure that they ran smoothly and to be on hand should any issues arise. As 2017 was the 400th anniversary of the Society I organised a series of special events, including: an Evensong at St Pauls, a lecture with a Nobel Prize Winner as the speaker, a float in the Lord Mayorβs Show (which was the βmost liked floatβ as voted for by the public) and a 700 guest dinner with many VIP attendees including a member of the Royal Family.Organising external events (venue hire) - I managed them end-to-end, from enquiry to requesting payment after the event. I worked closely with the caterers to ensure the event ran as requested by the client. In the final year of working at the Society the bookings increased 37%.Communication - I managed the Society's Twitter account and wrote the newsletters which went to 1500 members. It was also important to build a strong relationship with the members on an individual basis.Administration - I was the administrator for 2 annual student grants - both launched in 2017 so I was key in creating their processes.
