I am a Permanency Senior Practitioner for The Open home Foundation in Canterbury. This means that I am privileged enough to work with Oranga Tamariki caregivers, who are wanting to make a permanent commitment to the tamariki and rangatahi in their care. I walk with them through this process and develop a plan with them to ensure they are getting what they need.

I was a care and protection social worker at the Open Home Foundation, Canterbury. This included working with a variety of children and young people in foster care. I needed to complete court documents and updates, ensure that the children and young people I was working with were safe and had their health, education and cultural needs met. I did this through my interactions with them and bringing the team around them together.

I was a care and protection social worker in the Youth Team. I worked with young people in foster care with high and complex needs. This included working with young people with drugs and alcohol issues, mental illnesses, family violence and trauma.

My role as social worker at Pillars included working in partnership with families who had experienced having a loved one sent to prison. My job was to help them understand the justice system, help them with financial, physical, emotional, spiritual, social, housing and educational issues that may occur post or pre-sentencing. I work with a holistic, task centered and strengths-based approach. I learn so much learning from the families that I work with, I was privileged to be in this position.

My role at Pillars included recruiting, training and supervising mentors for children that have a parent in prison. It also involved interviewing and supporting the children that come on the programme.

In this role ran an Intermediate aged drop in center called Flame. I managed the team of leaders and volunteers. I also managed two youth workers at an intermediate school. We ran leadership groups, self-esteem groups, whole school events and mentored young people individually too.
