My doctoral research focused on the design of an integrated solar panel antenna for use on low Earth orbit satellites. The purpose of this research was to combine the antenna and the solar panel functionality as a single component; thus, optimally utilising the satellite’s surface area. This was achieved by using an optically transparent rectangular dielectric resonator antenna made of ceramic glass on top of a triple-junction gallium arsenide solar cell. Several dielectric resonator antenna elements were combined into an array with a back-to-back Yagi-Uda topology. An array feeding network was proposed that can steer the radiation beam with a constant flux density profile over steering angle using a single digital phase shifter.

R&D of various communication and direction finding antennas for the defence industry. Further advanced MATLAB and FEKO experience was gained as well as antenna measurement techniques using anechoic chambers and ground reflection ranges.

Research modern satellite technologies (transceivers, antennas etc). Ad-hoc RF and Antenna satellite related R&D support.

Project managed and contributed on classified defence projects. Compile specification and test documentation. Evaluate and test military radio equipment against user requirements and specifications. Antenna placement studies of various military vehicle platforms using FEKO.
