Vernon Spencer, Executive Chairman of the Stargate Flexstar Corporation Group, is a renowned industry leader in the business of consumer home lending, mortgage processing, and mortgage-backed securities in Australia. He has advised federal and state governments, and regulatory authorities, on a range of issues and legislative changes related to the mortgage industry, and has been actively involved with mortgage industry education programs and educational institutions continuously for the past 45 years. He co-founded the Mortgage and Finance Association of Australia in 1982, becoming its State President in 1985, continuously holding that position until 1998. The following year he accepted the National Presidency of the Association, which he held for the maximum three-year term. In 1998, he became the first Life Member of the Association. He has been inducted into the Brighton Grammar Hall of Fame in recognition of his contribution to the Australian mortgage lending industry. In 1972, he founded Stargate Corporation Group, which became a market leader in the business of mortgage banking, loan processing, and credit and asset management. In 1978 he was responsible for the first issue of mortgage-backed securities in Australia and the beginning of the secondary mortgage market in this country. In 1992, Stargate formed the Interstar Securities Group, which became one of the nation’s largest non-bank wholesale loan financiers, providing housing finance through mortgage managers and mortgage brokers, and funded by the issuance of mortgage-backed securities to major institutions and investors in Australia, Europe, Asia, and USA. Under Vernon's leadership the Stargate Flexstar Group continues to provide a broad range of mortgage underwriting, processing, technology, and mortgage management services through its financial services, global asset management, and technologies divisions, and is a market leader in these segments of the Australian mortgage industry.
