About Dale Jones, Ph.D.
With high enthusiasm for life, I am driven with daily vigor to uplift people, build relationships through trust, strengthen teams, and improve lives. My interests are at the intersection of talent development, education systems, entrepreneurship, economic and workforce development, and technology innovation. I am a leadership coach with a passion for partnering with leaders to help transform leaders and organizations to become their best, fulfill their purpose, achieve excellence, get desired performance results, and accomplish their goals. Completion of the Georgetown University Executive Certificate in Leadership Coaching program and statewide Lead Virginia program are foundations. My volunteer service is on the Virginia Commonwealth University Board of Visitors, VCU Intellectual Property Foundation Board of Directors, and American Society for Public Administration National Capital Area Chapter Board of Directors. Born in the National Capital Region in Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, I came of age living in multiple states and on the islands of Guam (Pacific Ocean) and Bermuda (Atlantic Ocean). This distinctive experience established my lifelong practices of learning continuously, adjusting easily to new environments, and valuing and respecting all people. My joys are education, public service, and leadership development. I graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy and completed a military career to answer a calling to serve our nation. Along the way, I earned a doctoral degree from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs of Syracuse University and devoted myself to a second career as an educator and university leader, eventually serving as a campus CEO chancellor. It’s an honor to educate informed citizens and prepare them to be leaders in a world of complex economic, social, political, and technological changes. In the Washington, D.C. area, I worked in the Pentagon on strategic analyses for the Departments of Defense and State; tracked and reported cost, schedule, and performance metrics for R&D programs; completed a master’s degree in public policy at George Washington University; served as a White House Military Social Aide; directed a Pew Charitable Trusts government performance project which assessed governments by evaluating management capacity in financial management, HR management, IT management, capital management, and managing for results; served as a legislative director in the U.S. House of Representatives on Capitol Hill; and conducted research as a management consultant for a not-for-profit corporation.
