A trauma-informed approach is integral to my engagement with the women and children I support in the context of domestic and family violence. I meet my clients - both adults and children - 'where they are at'. Responding with empathy and unconditional positive regard is essential to restoring a sense of value, dignity and recognition of the deep impacts of psychological as well as physical trauma. My therapeutic approach employs an understanding of the neurobiology of trauma. That is, the cognitive executive function recovery work cannot occur without regulation of the central nervous system's production of stress hormones. My nurturing, relational approach aims to restore trust and promotes a milieu of healing where this can take place.
