Click, click, click. Tap, tap, tap. These are the familiar sounds of my late childhood and early teen years as a twenty-first century child. Whether for learning or for entertainment, the computer has been an integral part of my adolescence; something about the soft blue light glimmering from the screen kept me entranced. This fascination with today’s new technologies did not sprout alone as I definitely got some encouragement from my dad, a man with a great amount of IT experience.Unknowingly, I did a straight nose-dive into the ocean of programming languages: COP 3275 Programming using C. While facing one of the most difficult classes I had ever dealt with in my academic career, I also realized that it was one of the most exciting things I had done in an academic context. It took countless of hours of screen-staring, key-clacking, and hair-pulling about every single assignment or project but when I got things done, or even when I solved small bug, it gave me a great satisfaction every time. At the same time, another passion of mine has exponentially grown during my years in university: climate activism. When I’m not tapping away at the keyboard to get projects done, I am out attempting to create true change on my university’s campus regarding climate change through resolutions, marches, and education.Both of my passions are taking on a greater role in our present and future which is why I aspire to integrate these two fields however I can to create the most amount of positive change.
