I have overall responsibility for strategy and business planning at Sanoma’s News & Feature business, including Helsingin Sanomat, Ilta-Sanomat, Aamulehti, Satakunnan Kansa, several local newspapers and various magazines. I head a team of professionals that, in addition to strategy, business analysis & planning, conducts strategic projects, drives editorial process improvement, and manages single copy sales.

I had overall profit & loss responsibility for Sanoma Lifestyle & Kids. The magazine market is constantly being disrupted by new ways of content consumption and thus recent years have meant constant change for the business. This allowed me to learn a lot about change management and managing a business that is facing pressure from many directions.

In addition to my duties as Director, Business Development, I was appointed Business Controller and became responsible for business controlling function and the controller team of Sanoma Lifestyle. The new additional duties included forecasting (both short and long term), internal/management reporting and business analysis. This period allowed me to take a deep dive into the financial management side of business management.

I was responsible for strategy, business development and M&A activities for Sanoma Magazines Finland / Sanoma Lifestyle. One of my first tasks was to manage a project to analyse the business situation and assess the direction the business was heading. The project resulted in defining a new vision and transformation strategy.An efficiency and business turnaround program ensued and I headed the program management office. The program started a transformation and profitability improvement journey that lasted several years and involved several separate improvement projects. Also, active and continuous product and business portfolio management was started and I had the responsibility to lead it.

I was responsible for strategy formulation and M&A processes for Sanoma Media Finland. I introduced a new, customer-centric way of defining strategy to Sanoma Magazines and revised its business strategy. I helped crystallise Nelonen Media’s business strategy and started an M&A process, in the middle of which I was appointed Sanoma Magazine’s Director, Business Development.

I was responsible for running the strategy office for Sanoma Entertainment, which included managing the strategic planning process, defining and formulating strategy, and managing strategic projects. I was also responsible for mergers & acquisitions.I was heavily involved in two large-scale M&A projects and in both cases my role was in business due diligence and valuation. I was also involved in several smaller M&A projects.

Guiding the streamlining/turnaround, transformation and subsequently new growth of Sanoma Tekniikkajulkaisut from the Board of Directors perspective.
