My main tasks included working as a substitute executive fire officer (for a total of 2.8 years). As the executive fire officer I was responsible for management of administration and operations. In addition, I led the work of the central fire station's 8-12 professional firefighters both at the station and during rescue operations. Due to my special training, I was part of both the fire department's MIGR group as well as the rescue divers.

The Baltic Sea Maritime Incident Response Group (Baltic Sea MIRG) Project was established by the Finnish Border Guard as the responsible maritime search and rescue authority in cooperation with Finland’s Emergency Rescue Services. The project has sought to create joint MIRG coordination models and operational guidelines for the Baltic Sea region and support the harmonisation of MIRG services in Europe.Joint coordination models and operational guidelines would make MIRG operations safer and more efficient in case of ship fires or other maritime accidents requiring MIRG teams from several countries. They would not only enhance the cooperation between different countries' MIRG teams but also the cooperation between the maritime SAR authorities, emergency fire and rescue services providing MIRG teams and the crew of the distress vessel.The project ran from 1 December 2014 to 31 December 2016. It consisted of three work packages:- Work Package 1 - Documentation of MIRG related training material- Work Package 2 - Incident Analysis- Work Package 3 - Creating joint MIRG coordination models and operational guidelinesIn the Work Package 3, joint MIRG coordination models and operational guidelines (OGs) for the Baltic Sea region were created in cooperation with all project partners. I worked as a Deputy Project Manager for an EU co-financed project named European Flood Response Capacity (EFRC) Module. The Module has been developed through cooperation between Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) and Crisis Management Centre Finland (CMC). In the EFRC project my task was to support project manager in planning and launching the flood module. My core responsibilities were to design and implement the EFRC module’s Assessment and Safety Unit including equipment planning and procurement processes, job descriptions and recruitment, as well as respond for the design and implementation of training the staff.
