Vesta believes the motto “What we do well helps us excel”, a term she creatively coined for a student success program at Johnson C. Smith University (JCSU). Vesta understands that strengths awareness and self efficacy drive personal, professional, and academic success. Vesta's top five Clifton strengths are: Woo, Communication, Positivity, Connectedness, and Strategic. Vesta earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management from Belmont Abbey College in Belmont, North Carolina; prior to that, she earned her Associate in Arts & Sciences degree in Information Technology from Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio. Vesta began her career in higher education at JCSU in 2005, where she spent 14 years orienting, supporting and advising first-year and second year student success programs in a coordinator and strategic planning support role within the University College. Vesta played an integral role in several presidential community development and partnership initiatives, grant sponsored events and programs. Vesta's career took a slight pivot in 2021 when she was able to transfer her skillset to closing the opportunity divide in a more fast tracked way within the Year Up workforce development organization as an Employment Placement Manager. Vesta has positively impacted the lives of many young adults as a internship and career readiness instructor, professional and interpersonal development coach and advisor. In her leisure time, she enjoys fun activities with her family and friends, listening to live music, spoken word, traveling, participating in community outreach/engagement opportunities, and attending cultural enrichment events.
