My professional career spans nearly 20 years, with a distinguished track record in the extractives industry.My current role at Petra encompasses overall Business Planning, Strategy, Corporate Development (MADs), as well as the traditional Corporate Finance aspects. Since 2017, I have been formulating corporate strategies built upon Sustainability at its core, as I firmly believe that much needs to be done in order to make the world an inherently more sustainable one. My approach to my job or any project I undertake is to embed Sustainability right from the onset, which I believe leads to better solutions. Part of task team to perform a pre-feasibility type of study to propose solutions to minimize the liability of Secunda site closure.4. Providing support to R&D team for the development of paste technology for Synfuels purposes.In addition to the Water & Salt strategy and related projects, performed the following responsibilities and work as part of the Process Design group:1. Lead process engineer on developing a “pre-feasibility” level ash handling philosophy for the India Coal to Liquids facility. This meant the identification & implementation of project(s) to handle the Sasol Secunda salt effluents from both an ash water system perspective, as well as from an overall Secunda complex perspective.Specific responsibilities & delivery included:1. Business case for KFA 4. 2. Working closely with the R&D group in Secunda to validate and engineer fit-for-purpose solutions to address KFA 4 based on bench scale and pilot plant studies.3. Project lead on a joint project with Harmony Gold. Logical point on project reached.4. Project lead on a possible technical collaboration with an external company to treat process cooling water using an electrolysis technology. Logical point on project reached.5. Development of short term ash dam levels model to predict dam levels on a rolling 3 year cycle. This model also helped initiate short term actions across the Secunda complex that are in various stages of development.6. Part of the project team to help scope the Halwepan lining project (especially the integration requirements and potential opportunities with Project Libra at the time).7. Technology scanning and looking for methods that could help alleviate the current Secunda Water & Salt imbalances.

Joined the Octene Train III (OT3) project as an assistant process engineer. The plant included several world first technologies (at the time) to produce 100 ktpa of high grade 1-octene from 1-heptene. The following projects and roles were executed at OT3 (in chronological order):1. Development of a comprehensive RBI (Risk Based Investigation) study to develop a maintenance schedule for OT3.2. Backup LP Nitrogen Supply to provide a continuous supply of LP Nitrogen for vacuum breaking purposes to OT3. Project was taken from idea generation to full execution and operation. Resulted in significant capital saving (> ZAR 13 million) compared to other vacuum breaking options. 3. Led teams to carry out punching activities to ensure that plant constructed as per approved P&IDs. 4. One of four Sasol commissioning engineers to get OT3 from Ready for Commissioning (RFC) to Ready for Operaation (RFO) status. Achieved RFO status on all responsible sections within schedule and without any safety incident. 5. One of four Start-up Engineers. All responsible sections started up as per schedule, on specification & desired rates without any safety incidents. Overall Beneficial Operation achieved on OT3 before scheduled date. 6. Technical Support Engineer: upon successful start-up, became the technical support engineer to ensure the technical integrity of OT3 is maintained, and to help production reach their targets within cost & schedule. Some highlights of OPI/TSO responsibilities include:a. Various Monitoring Tools to assess plant performance b. Small projects amounting to value addition of over R 10 millionc. Acting lead engineer for OT3 for long periods of timed. Participated in various stateroom & management meetings.e. Development of technical drivers and writing up operating manuals.f. Monthly management reports, reliability reports, etc.g. Conducting Potential Deviation Analyses, HAZOPs, Root Cause Analyses, incident investigations.
