In February 2009 Vertafore reorganized from a collection of business units each focused on different products to be “One Vertafore” -- a single operating company with centralized functions, including product development. The company was sold to TPG Capital in June 2010 for $1.4 billion.As CTO, I led over 400 product development and datacenter operations staff. When the CTO role was created at the time of the 2009 reorganization, I was handed a collection of disparate teams in 10 locations (and we acquired more during my tenure). I enacted change initiatives on multiple fronts -- SDLC, team structure, location consolidation, metrics, standards, and cross-location product development efforts -- to drive convergence of these disparate teams while supporting bottom-line growth.

Fairchild Semiconductor is a $1B+ producer of integrated circuits specializing in power management, analog/digital interface, optoelectronics, and other components for computer, automotive, mobile device, and consumer electronics applications. Client demands in this market evolve quickly, so Fairchild invests ~$100M each year to launch hundreds of new products and product variants.I interviewed dozens of stakeholders in 4 domestic and Asian locations to develop a holistic process map of Fairchild's product lifecycle from concept to end-of-life. I then designed and led the creation of a web-based system, the Online Business Case, to expedite the collaborative process of creating, evaluating, and approving business cases for new products. The system also enables the comparison of different product development efforts by enforcing the structured collection and calculation of metrics such as Average Selling Price, R&D capital and expense, gross margin, and market size/share.

Lead developer of proprietary high-volume chat server system that drove the early user-base growth of theglobe.com. Managed small team of C++, Java, and Oracle developers in addition to hands-on C++ coding and Linux systems administration duties. Invented SGML-based markup language for the chat system, enabling non-developers with HTML experience to create themed/branded UI's for chat system.
