About Viana Chau
In my current role as a Research Associate for the Center of Social Impact at the Chinese American Service League, I'm researching social drivers of health (SDOH) affecting Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders (AANHPIs) in multicultural settings through qualitative and quantitative approaches. I'm also passionate about promoting language access, cultural competency, and DEIA initiatives in the workplace and greater community. My ultimate goal is to develop culturally competent solutions to social issues, and to implement quality improvement strategies within the global context.My previous research projects included the following topics: the perception of HIV-related stigma and discrimination in the Philippine healthcare setting; a social media analysis of the prevalence of eating disorders and body dysmorphia in South Korea; a theory validation regarding linguistic relativity among bilingual and multilingual Chinese/English speakers; and a self-illustrated book about the methodolgy and physiological impacts of 32 core yoga poses.Another formative experience is my role as an ESOL tutor. I helped underserved populations improve literacy rates (among school-age children) and English fluency (among adults) for a year in south Florida. I am also continuing to do freelance online ESOL tutoring for adult learners in the United States and other countries.I also love exploration and travel.
