In my capacity as a Geography teacher at Norwich School, I take immense pride in delivering a curriculum that inspires curiosity about the world, fosters critical thinking, and equips students with the knowledge to navigate an increasingly interconnected global landscape. My commitment goes beyond delivering lessons — I aim to cultivate a deep appreciation for the subject while supporting students' academic and personal growth.I aim to root my teaching firmly in the real world, weaving contemporary case studies and current events into the curriculum to ensure students see the relevance of Geography in their everyday lives. By encouraging open discussion and debate, I create a classroom environment where students feel empowered to question, challenge, and develop a critical understanding of the world around them. My goal is to help them not only understand complex global issues such as climate change, sustainability, and urbanisation but also to think deeply about their roles as informed and responsible citizens.Through this approach, I aim to ignite a lifelong interest in Geography, equipping students with the analytical skills and global awareness they need to navigate and shape our ever-evolving world.

In my role as a Sustainability Lead, I oversee initiatives and activities to achieve the Eco-Schools Green Flag Award, which was granted in May of 2023. This involves implementing sustainable practices, coordinating environmental education, and engaging the school community in eco-friendly activities. Additionally, I oversee activities aimed at educating the community about and working towards carbon neutrality by collaborating with our partner charity, Ripple Africa, to offset carbon emissions through various projects and initiatives.This role involves working with a number of stakeholders and is becoming increasingly crucial in fostering a culture of sustainability within the school environment.

As a seasoned Teacher of Humanities, I bring expertise in instructing Key Stages 3-5 with a focus on history, geography, and business studies. My role involves crafting engaging lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards, fostering a positive learning environment, and assessing student progress through various methods. I stay updated on educational trends, collaborate with colleagues on cross-disciplinary projects, and actively contribute to extracurricular activities.

• Graded ‘Meeting’ or ‘Mastering’ in every official observation using the schools internal PM criteria.• Developed the curriculum within History and Geography, both of which were very much in the early stages of development when I arrived. Since arriving at Tenby I have been working towards the standardisation of the Humanities lessons and assessment to ensure that all pupils are receiving high quality lessons across the departments.• Incorporated project based learning activities into long term planning and diversified assessment styles across both subjects with a view to creating highly engaging humanities lessons that are enjoyable and accessible for all learners. • Created a ‘Humanities Super-Curricular Activities’ handbook to be distributed to all parents at the beginning of the 2019 academic year (January), with a view to challenging the more able pupils whilst providing alternative methods of accessing the curriculum for others.• To assist in the delivery of purposeful PSHE sessions and development of positive pastoral relationships, I created a ‘Role of the Form Tutor’ handbook, delivered whole staff training and offered ongoing support with this. • Ran a number of Parent Workshops on the ‘development of critical thinking skills’, ‘debate at home’ and ‘Philosophy for Children (P4C)’.• Ran an extra-curricular Debate Society in which students were given the opportunity to discuss a range of social, political, religious etc. topics with a view to developing international mindedness. • Planned and oversaw Earth Day 2018 on the 20th April. The focus of this day was to raise awareness about Plastic Pollution.• Planned and oversaw the inaugural Model United Nations in our school, which took place on the 24th May 2018. This event was a huge success and has been scheduled in to the calendar for May 2019. Pupils who took part in the event were so enthused that they have begun going to private MUNs in their own time.

• As a result of a very successful NQT year I was appointed Head of Social Ethics, a department which has within it two full time subject specialists and four non-specialists, who deliver the majority of the KS3 provision within the academy. • Managing the logistics of the department has been challenging in the early stages of the year due to the amount of people delivering the subject and the amount of shared groups that there are, however my organisation and communication has, thus far, made this a successful start to the year.• This year I am running a debating society within the Academy which has links with local political parties and the nationwide Debate Mate programme. It is my hope that this will engage pupils in local democracy and give them an insight in to how they can affect their local area through the democratic process.

• I am a dedicated professional, committed to my own personal success in the profession and that of the pupils I teach. I value the subject area greatly and my enthusiasm cultivates interest in those I teach. • I have forged good working relationships with both staff and students. I am a supportive member of the faculty and continually strive to improve teaching and learning within Humanities. For example, my contributions to the organisation and planning of high quality schemes of work in the academic year 2015-16 led to an improved delivery of Social Ethics within the academy and ultimately led to my appointment as HoD for the year 2016-17.• Cultivating an environment that supports good behaviour for learning is something that is strength of mine. Both academic and personal expectations are always set very high and pupils are very aware, through my marking, feedback and directed improvement, of what they can do to meet and exceed expected levels of progress.

I chose the Schools Direct training route because it provided the opportunity to gain extensive teaching experience from the outset, allowing me to maximise my development as a classroom practitioner. Over the course of my training, my commitment and dedication were recognised, with four out of six official observations grading me as ‘making outstanding progress against the teaching standards.’ This was a reflection of the significant effort and passion I brought to my teaching.During the year, I had the invaluable opportunity to teach in two very different schools, each offering unique challenges and learning experiences. The first was Wayland Academy Norfolk, a rural school where I encountered behavioural and aspirational challenges that required creative and adaptive teaching strategies. The second was Norwich School, a selective independent school in the heart of Norwich, boasting exceptional academic results, including a 99.5% A*-C GCSE pass rate in the 2015-16 academic year. The Religious Studies Department, in which I worked, achieved an impressive 100% A*-C pass rate.The contrast between these two schools and their respective student populations provided me with a rich and varied training experience. Looking back, I can confidently say that I thoroughly enjoyed working in both environments, albeit for very different reasons. Each setting helped shape my teaching philosophy and approach, equipping me with the skills to meet the diverse needs of my students.

In my capacity as Account Manager at Adept Design, it was my responsibility to maintain a high level of satisfaction within my existing client group and also to be tenacious and cultivate new relationships within the charity sector.My duties included:• Working with a range of charity and not for profit clients to outline their needs and quote for work based on these.• Build on existing relationships and forge new ones with organisations nationwide.• Work with designers and developers to brief work in to the studio.• Work towards the marketing of the company. This includes the utilisation of the relevant social media channels and a company blog, which I’m been responsible for writing and scheduling updates for.

My position of Marketing Assistant with Sika Ltd was fantastic. I was given opportunities to support both the Marketing Executive and the PR & Communications Manager on a regular basis, which has given me priceless experience. I furthered my proficiency with Adobe creative suite, wrote for press and produced marketing collateral for mass production and circulation. I developed my client side marketing, advertising and PR skills within this international corporation. Learned the importance of brand identity and followed a strict corporate standard. Further developed my time management skills and confidence when communicating with customers, agencies and clients alike.

Alongside my study I worked for the Marketing and Communications Dept. at the University. During this time I have been regularly attending nationwide FE and HE Fairs in a professional capacity as a representative of the department.

• Visited the Charity on a summer placement to work closely with children with sensory disabilities and to revamp some of the charities literature and marketing products. • Produced a newsletter to be distributed online via html emails to partners and beneficiaries. • Helped to produce a Summer School 2010 book that would be given to beneficiaries and their parents.
