MATES (the Mentoring and Tutoring Education Scheme) provides 'at risk' students with a university mentor/tutor. I was placed with a Year 8 boy at Manurewa Intermediate, to ease the transition into college.Key Responsibilities:- Forming a trusting relationship- Planning educational sessions- Implementation of a literacy programmeThis position helped teach me the importance of including child's family in the learning process. Without their support, accomplishments at school are limited severely.

This was a data entry job entering referencing information from books, journal articles and websites into a software programme to assist a post-grad student in her thesis preparation.I was given the raw information, and presented with a due date. This experience required self motivation, organisation, and efficiency.Key Requirements:- Familiarise myself with required software- Self motivation and organisationI completed the required work, including data from over 400 sources, with two months to spare.

I began as a kitchen hand and worked my way up to answering phones and waiting tables.In this job I learnt the importance of being a team player and created a work ethic for myself of being motivated and punctual.
