I am part of the Experimental Histopathology STP team, assisting researchers throughout the institute with various needs including tissue processing, embedding & sectioning; immunostaining; RNAscope/ISH; laser capture microdissection; a range of histological techniques and embryo dissection expertise amongst other services.

I tutored Biology for SAT II Subject Test, the International Baccaleureate and similar courses. I also tutored pupils needing extra help in Biology at school at all levels.

I was part of a lab that works in the field of cardiac stem cell biology. Up until just over a decade ago it was believed the heart was a post-mitotic, non-regenerative organ that is incapable of repair following injury and trauma. It has since been shown that not only does the heart contain resident stem/progenitor cells but that there appears to be various populations of these cells with different molecular profiles. These cells have been shown to play a role in repairing the heart following every day wear and tear and exercise, but clearly are not potent enough to regenerate the heart following larger injury/trauma, such as a myocardial infarction. The lab is interested in trying to understand the biology of these stem cells with the hope of identifying signals/factors that can activate them leading to a significant increase in the heart's ability for repair and regeneration following injury/trauma. It is hoped this research would eventually assist in the development of an off-the-shelf drug that can be easily administered by the patient themselves, stimulating their own stem cells to regenerate their own hearts therefore negating the requirement of invasive and expensive hospital treatments.

Main duties were to teach medical, dental & biomedical science students Human Anatomy during practical lessons through either dissection or demonstration of prosections. I also described medical images i.e. X-rays & MRIs etc and complemented practical elements with blackboard/whiteboard use. Other duties included leading tutorials and assisting with assessments.

Duties included maintenance of the dissecting room and cadavers for practical Human Anatomy teaching, as well as assisting in preparing learning aids and updating college files and databases.

Main duties involved testing for microbiological agents at various points along the bottled water production chain. I was responsible for day-to-day running of the lab, purchasing and ordering, and maintaining administrative files and records.
