Working with local agencies, schools and community this project creates events, artworks and installations that visually, verbally and virtually tells stories of waterways (urban and rural). The work explores stories in the landscape, through watery pathways, to be shared by students and community building on the voices of locals, past and present. The work appears as publications, a series of screens at public events, collateral to collect and learn more about the environment (Matariki Calendars, Te Wairepo Project, Wakapuaka & Ōmaio Fieldguides, Breathe resource downloadable), objects of play (Go Fish Cards), invitations to engage in biodiversity enhancement (Pod seed packet project)The development of the work was through a series of creative interventions along the waterways to gather material amalgamated into the Know your Stream 'Field Guides'. These are field days, walks, exploration based workshops and conversation spaces. It was conceived with the networked performance (cyberformance) troupe Avatar BodyCollision www.avatarbodycollision.org. An open-source project that has a fabulous volunteer developer team one who has joined since being one of the rotating iteration of Auckland University of Technology computer scientists learning about and developing alongside UpStage as clients.I am an artist through UpStage, creating promotional material, designing exhibitions, developing resources for use on the stages, designing the look and feel of the annual festival events and working on show-reels and documentation.I co-curate the festivals including accessing funding, developing the call for proposals, selecting works and mentoring the artists groups as well as co-hosting the festivals along with my co-conspirator Helen Varley Jamieson.I have created performances as solo works as well as collaborated on shows with many other artists including Avatar BodyCollisionThanks to a Creative Europe fund we are currently rewriting the software to enable deployment across mobile technologies and to break away from the original stage structure that served out via Flash player. It is the collaborative project with Caroline McCaw and creative technologist Andrew Hornblow who between them represent three distinct coastlines around Aotearoa/New Zealand, an interest in public art and a shared concern for the environment.Together we are worked with Otago University whale researchers Professor Liz Slooten, Steve Dawson and Will Rayment, sound artist Leyton Glen, the Otago Museum team, and design students from Otago Polytechnic. • Burn Time & Exploratorium
    Creative Instigator & Collaborator
    Burn Time & Exploratorium Apr 2019 - Dec 2019
Burn Time & Exploratorium was co-created with Anthony Genet (Flame Daisy) Burn Time is a heliographic instrument; styled on the Victorian meteorological machine, Campbell Stokes. These instruments are still in use in weather stations around Aotearoa although increasingly being replaced with digital recorders. Facebook page @BurnTimeDunedinOur machine is created from recycled brass and copper and bits of an old boat. A light sensitive cardboard strip records a daily transcript of sunshine hours collected through the focusing effect of a blown optical glass orb. The Exploratorium offered our research, prototypes, sun shine related novelties and workshops and events - it also housed the machine overnight. The instrument we created is a machine but the only moving part is the earth we all stand on.We understand from historic records that we are now in pivotal times for acting for our continued existence. We invite viewers to consider their actions in our changing climatic times. This work was made possible by Dunedin City Council Ara Toi Fund, Creative Communities administered by Arts Council Nelson and support by NZ MetService, Nelson Weather and Dunedin Astronomical Society, Dunedin Dream Brokerage and the Meridian Mall (Venue).

Finding Lucinda Fairweather is a text adventure, story/treasure-hunt set between Founders Heritage Park, the Nelson CBD and the Port. Interactive Fiction is both an historic game space and site of narrative worlds. It is a means to create and offer puzzling and poetic play spaces where the game world is created in the imagination of the player. This It is a geo-located story will connect six sites around the old shoreline and Nelson CBD with physical installations that act as clues for navigating around the story. These are guides to resolving the mysterious tale of Lucinda and discovering a forgotten aspect of the old Nelson. Clues range from individual objects in windows and part of an installation at Founders through to an entire window at the Nelson Provincial Museum. They each act to 'locate' part of the story and serve as an entry point for play. The sites come alive through lighting up at night in their part of the 'playing after dark' magic of the Light Nelson event.I am the initiator of this project and am collaborating with the artist Robert Carter on its implementation. You will be able to access it from virtually anywhere from the 8th of July at http://flf.geek.nz
