Community Worker / Project Manager (London-Based)
Developed and implemented projects directed towards community cohesion and capacity building. These included Stories in the Round, a neighborhood storytelling project giving voice to participants from varying backgrounds in a socially and economically changing inner city borough. Our venues were as diverse as the stories, taking place at worship spaces, an adventure playground, a community garden and a historical building. I also provided workshop opportunities for groups looking to engage a wider audience by utilizing experience and the oral tradition. Further, two hugely successful runs of 'storybombing' across the area brought together scores of stories showcasing the multiculturalism, rich history and future possibilities within an area being disrupted by gentrification. One previous project, Thrive Magazine, brought together individuals from the alternative and heavy music subcultural scene who often found themselves ostracized institutionally, to share their own experiences, interests and support one another via online mentoring and a zine publication focusing on the European scene. Much of my work also involved personal mentoring for individuals struggling with rejection and finding identity within their communities.
Trust Administrator (Operations Manager)
The London Mennonite Trust is a charity which exists to promote the values of the Anabaptist and Mennonite traditions in the UK and abroad. The organisation owns several properties which earn profits to support the Trust's work and other properties rented to individuals working to further the Charities objectives. The Trust resources individuals and organisations who work to further the aims of the charity, including setting up a resource library, funding student bursaries, awarding grants to both individuals and bodies, seconding workers and providing administrative support for partner organisations. As Administrator I was responsible for overall management of the running of the charity and the post’s title was upgraded to ‘Operations Manager’ at my departure to be more accurate of its responsibilities. The role was highly varied, shifting between general administration and communications, Charity Administration (including working to become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation), Financial Administration and Grantmaking, and Property Management. **Left the post due to relocating back to the States**
Centre Manager
The Old School Rooms are a vibrant community resource and Grade II* listed Heritage building in the heart of Lower Clapton, providing affordable quality space for activities, functions and desk space. The centre also provides a nursery, runs a weekly soup kitchen and hosts a variety of community wellbeing activities. During my tenure as Centre Manager, I:- came alongside struggling employees who had not received adequate managerial support, ensuring that they received helpful reviews and training, had a voice amongst the trustees, and were provided the correct resources to carry out their jobs in a financially strained time;- along with my team, was able to roll out a plan for revitalising the centre which was poorly maintained through the passing of time and lack of income. Through a mixture of corporate volunteer days, fundraising and sound financial management we were able to ensure that the centre received the repairs required;- uncovered and addressed issues in the financial administration systems which were resulting in a loss of revenue and increased frustration for customers;- established necessary systems and policies to ensure that employees had adequate understanding of the centre's operations and relationships, resulting in a more efficient and enjoyable workplace for all;- worked with volunteers to get the Village Green drop-in set up to provide activities for children and adults, a free shop, information and advice on health and local services as well as offering creative activities.
Time Broker - Haringey Timebank

My role as a Time Broker was to promote the five core values of timebanking within a socially deprived London community:- Everyone is an asset- Some work is beyond a monetary price- Reciprocity in helping- Social networks are necessary- A respect for all human beingsIn order to achieve this and also fulfil the managing organization's objectives of environmental sustainability, we focussed on promoting activities around the greening of the borough of Haringey. Working alongside local member organistions we provided opportunties for residents to receive services to save energy and money, to support local community gardening initiatives, to promote upcycling and sharing of resources.

SPEAK is a network and movement of students and young adults campaigning and acting for global justice. As Network Manager, I:- Managed team members from Southern England and Wales as well as volunteers;- Worked with trustees and Founding Director to tease out organizational hurdles causing high levels of staff turnover and burnout as well as financial difficulties;- Oversaw the development and country-wide distribution of resources in support of campaigns and activities; - Led on fundraising strategy development and implementation including an organizing an event with a high profile keynote speaker to recruit new donors; - Took the lead in planning the national gathering which gathered several hundred people internationally, providing workshops, breakout sessions and culminating in a larger campaign action; Also oversaw direction of hospitality and transport teams and followup.

- Implemented and monitored various policies from financial to protecting vulnerable adults;- Coordinated food distribution project, ensuring volunteer & recipient health & safety;- Produced regular socials, exhibitions, gigs and other events to support members and provide outreach;- Performed general administration and bookkeeping duties;- Liaising with team members to evaluate achievements, ensuring mission-led focus and strategy
Centre Manager
Number 1 Hatfield was a community center located in the deprived town center in Hatfield, north of London. At my introduction to the center as a volunteer it was under threat of closure from the council who had pulled funding and were threatening demolition. All income aside from that generated from internal activities was suddenly cut and all staff were dismissed, leading to me taking on the role of managing the center first as a volunteer then with a small stipend; The council had plans to close the center as the area was to be regenerated, however the plans were not yet approved and residents protested the loss of the only community resource in a deprived area, so I led on the efforts to campaign against its closure and it remained open for many years after (as of 2016 it was open); My overall responsibilities were numerous, from financial administration, fundraising, running courses, taking bookings, managing a team of volunteers, supporting trustees, and facilities management. It was the best introduction to charity management I could ever hope for.
