I’m not your average run of the mill construction Project Controller. Of course I have all the skills it takes to execute a project on time and within budget…and I didn’t get those skills overnight either. My background while extensive isn’t traditional. When I was young, oh so much younger than today I worked at places like Ben Franklin. You remember the store that sold penny candy in your hometown of 2000. However, I quickly moved on to working as a health educator. I’ve taught everyone from teens to senior citizens. I’ve taught thousands of (young and old) students on various topics. Then the day came I wanted to learn about computers! I worked as a contract administrator, then an account executive and the assistant to the VP of Client Relations and that was all at the same company. Life changed, I grew older and wiser and I moved which gave me the opportunity to go back to college. It wasn’t an easy choice “who I wanted to be when I grew up” but I finally chose Homeland Security for my BA and Children and Family Services as my undergrad work. I wanted to be able to speak and act with knowledge about situations that sometimes were not within our control. That’s when I began teaching via Skype to students in Haiti. A couple years later I was offered a job that would use my teaching skills and my knowledge.In the past 5 years I’ve taught skills to 500+ people who were living or working in a situation that was out of their control. The skills they’ve learned from me add value to their lives and helped them find and keep employment. And.. that my friend, is why I am not your run of the mill Project Controller.
