✰ Steeped in Traditional Journalism, Passionate About Creative Writing ✰ We all have a story to tell, what is yours? I believe that writing is life and that everyone should take time to write thoughtfully. Whether writing about what is happening in the world, or in our own lives, taking the time to research and to incorporate opposing viewpoints before we hit "Publish" or "Post" allows us to see the path ahead more clearly. Also, the pen is mightier than the sword, and nothing speaks truth to power like a well-written, extensively researched piece of journalism. This is my background, this is the force that has propelled me forward as long as I can remember. As a former editor for The New York Times, I will always keep the lessons I learned at this most incredible of places close at hand. I have taken my rigorous education in ethics and accuracy, my attention to detail and my love of sharp turns of phrase and used them for good out in the wider world. I have helped first-time authors publish their books, entrepreneurs gain new customers and business people communicate more effectively. Clients love working with me because their goals become mine. I strive to personalize each job I do, and I can work with custom budgets, deadlines and writing styles. My favorite customers are those who struggle the most to put their thoughts and plans into writing. I know I can help them immediately become better communicators. I have also done and continue to pursue feature writing, reported essays, humor pieces and longer researched articles for various publications and websites, including the Dallas Morning News, Parenting magazine, Aleteia.org and my own blog, www.modernmessy.wordpress.com. There, I focus on writing about my son with Down syndrome and many issues related to disability. I try to infuse my work with wit and humor. Through my writing, I hope to become the advocate my son and his peers deserve. One of my favorite posts, below, is a look at the reality show "Born This Way," about a group of young adults with Down syndrome.
