The largest event I have orchestrated to date is ODA’s signature event, The Annual Spring Meeting (ASM). Now heading towards its 157th year (2024), the event is one of North America's longest-running and well-attended dental conventions, with attendance topping 12,000 attendees and counting. Although my official job title is “Coordinator,” I have maintained sole ownership of the event for nearly ten years. When attendees participate in the annual three-day event, they expect access to top industry professionals, premier exhibitors, and unparalleled networking and learning opportunities. And year after year, the event has grown, improved, and exceeded attendee expectations. Carrying out such a large-scale event requires meticulous planning and ingenuity to keep things going without a hitch. Over the years, I have created a comprehensive blueprint for the ASM that outlines deliverables, timelines, and contingencies for all event logistics, including floor plan creation, exhibitor kit development, booth space and sponsorship sales, contract management, promotions, exhibitor communications, and volunteer management.A few event enhancements that I have introduced in recent years include:• Integrating ODA’s 150th Anniversary Bash into the existing event in 2017;• Implementing the Expocad software application to streamline and improve ongoing tradeshow management; • Restructuring our sponsorship program to incorporate customizable options, resulting in a 630% boost in sponsorship sales between 2013 and 2019; • Transforming the booth floor layout to expand from 545 booths to 677 booths; and• Introducing a virtual online convention during COVID to generate nearly $250K. Each year we receive rave reviews from attendees and satisfied partners—a true testament to my yearlong efforts year after year.

Working with the Trade Show Manager, I honed my skills in large-scale event planning, management, and execution while co-directing the annual canfitpro Conference and Trade Show. The event featured an impressive collection of lectures, workshops, keynotes, and networking opportunities where fitness professional participants could immerse themselves in presentations from some of the world’s best fitness, wellness, and nutrition experts and view the latest products in the industry. As the assistant manager, I was accountable for all partnership development and implementation, sales of multichannel promotional opportunities, ticket distribution, and cost-containment measures. Over the course of a year, I played a key role in redesigning the marketing kit to boost revenues by 25%, deployed a new lead retrieval product that created a new add-on service for exhibitors, and introduced multiple change initiatives to streamline administrative tasks by 50% and carve out additional time for dedicated sales and marketing functions.

I shifted my focus to an operations management role for a breathtaking meeting and reception centre featuring an open floor plan, lush gardens, picturesque trees, a heart-shaped lake, a gazebo, and a terrace with outdoor seating. The location and unique amenities of the venue lent themselves to a diverse range of events for up to 200 guests.As a primary point of contact for all clients, I handled client inquiries, reservation bookings, contract negotiations, site tours, event day logistics, facility upkeep, and light bookkeeping. Capitalizing on the Centre’s visually appealing website, I utilized targeted search engine marketing to grow lead generation and maintain consistent booking to achieve our annual revenue goals.

I continued to work in the nonprofit sector as an events and fundraising specialist. Though my time was brief, I was able to make significant contributions with the reshaping of existing events and the introduction of new fundraising initiatives. To ensure the success of our events, I assisted with event logistics, volunteer coordination, pledge monitoring, registration tracking, and final reporting for review by senior management. Furthermore,I executed a multimedia approach for our marketing efforts that combined cause marketing, digital and social media, and strategic relationship building with local media contacts to boost awareness, event participation, and partnership development. Some of my notable accomplishments include building a strong network of corporate donors committed to lending in-kind and monetary support for our signature events to lower our overhead event expenses and increasing participation in our Bowl for Kid’s Sake/Financial District event by 300% to raise nearly $200K across eight Bowl for Kid’s Sake events in a single year.

Abuse Hurts was previously known as the Canadian Centre for Abuse Awareness. During my time with the organization, I balanced event planning with oversight of the organization’s financial health which included accountability for a $1.2M annual budget. When brainstorming new event strategies, I focused on programming that raised funds for the organization while driving overall awareness for our mission-driven programming and outreach initiatives. I was supported by a team of full-time staff members and event volunteers who worked long hours without hesitation to ensure all the pieces came together to deliver seamless events. Strategic partnerships with local businesses, including Q107 Radio, expanded our charitable events' scope and frequency and paved the way for YoY increases in donor contributions. Through my leadership, we increased participation in a charitable golf tournament by 40% over the previous year, negotiated over $600K in cash and in-kind donations for a holiday fundraising campaign, and earned positive feedback from the Canada Revenue Agency during a three-year audit for sound financial management.
