Having gained a wealth of experience managing pub finances for 13 years, I joined the Byond Team in 2016 and haven’t looked back! As Head of Finance it’s my job to make sure that we’re running an efficient and cost-effective ship, ensuring that every penny on a project is well spent and that our customers ultimately reap the benefits. I’ve always been good with numbers and communicating the story they tell is what I enjoy most about the job. In other words, helping everyone on the team understand what the numbers are telling us about the future – where the opportunities lie and where we need to be mindful of the budget on a project so that our clients get the best possible value for money. One thing I think we do really well at Byond is take a people first approach to every project, whether it’s a small Microsoft Teams Room for a startup or a complete strategy overhaul for a multi-site organisation. There’s no point suggesting the latest bells and whistles tech if the people using it are going to struggle with it! We’re very conscious of how we’re spending our clients’ money and have their ROI in mind from the initial consultation right through to sign off. As Head of Finance, I’m obviously focused on the core things like cash flow and planning, and making sure we have good foundations in place for growth, but I also love the people side of my job. Whether I’m working with one of the engineers on a project budget or with the Senior Leadership Team on our vision for the next five years, I enjoy supporting people and making financial language simple, easy to understand, and dare I say it – fun!
