My role within Advisian was predominately on a contamination basis working heavily with National Grid and SGN, where I frequently carried out site investigations on live substations and gas holder sites. My usual tasks as an engineer on site included:-Logging soil/rock cores;-Trial pitting;-Managing and supervising drillers & drill rigs;-Toolbox talks & active hazard reporting;-Maintaining health and safety at all times; -Scheduling samples for laboratory analysis; and-Occasional monitoring for groundwater, surface water, ground gas and drinking water.My daily tasks in an office environment included:-Writing Health and Safety Management Plans;-Desk top studies & factual reports;-Interpretative report writing;-Data entry for logs using gINT, including reviewing logs for issue; and-Screening laboratory data.My time at Advisian has seen me become the lead consultant for soil/rock logging within my office. I have been involved with a unique sea defence wall project, which was also implemented to contain contamination and acted as lead engineer for a three-week geotechnical investigation in Beckton, the largest gas works in the UK.

I undertook a graduate scheme with RPS Group as a part of their ECGE team. My main role involved work in site investigations and land contamination assessments & remediation, with daily tasks including:-Fee proposals;-Desktop studies & walkover surveys;-Groundwater & surface water monitoring;-Ground gas monitoring;-Supervising drilling rigs and logging soils/rock samples from boreholes & trial pits;-Scheduling samples for laboratory analysis;-Report writing & data entry into Holebase.During the last few months of employment, I was heavily involved with the proposed M4 corridor around Cardiff and Newport. I was responsible for carrying out gas, groundwater and surface water monitoring over a number of sites spanning the proposed 23 km stretch of new motorway, as well as scheduling all the laboratory testing. I also worked as an engineer assisting with cable percussive rigs; windowless sample rigs; rotary rigs; and CPT testing, where I logged and sampled the soil and rock cores. I was heavily involved in the projects data entry, where I had to input large quantities of data into Holebase for processing and took on the role of data manager where needed. My time on this project has greatly increased my skill set and has lead me to become more confident in the work I produce.
