I undertook a graduate scheme with RPS Group as a part of their ECGE team. My main role involved work in site investigations and land contamination assessments & remediation, with daily tasks including:-Fee proposals;-Desktop studies & walkover surveys;-Groundwater & surface water monitoring;-Ground gas monitoring;-Supervising drilling rigs and logging soils/rock samples from boreholes & trial pits;-Scheduling samples for laboratory analysis;-Report writing & data entry into Holebase.During the last few months of employment, I was heavily involved with the proposed M4 corridor around Cardiff and Newport. I was responsible for carrying out gas, groundwater and surface water monitoring over a number of sites spanning the proposed 23 km stretch of new motorway, as well as scheduling all the laboratory testing. I also worked as an engineer assisting with cable percussive rigs; windowless sample rigs; rotary rigs; and CPT testing, where I logged and sampled the soil and rock cores. I was heavily involved in the projects data entry, where I had to input large quantities of data into Holebase for processing and took on the role of data manager where needed. My time on this project has greatly increased my skill set and has lead me to become more confident in the work I produce.
