I have always used my hands to create. In my early twenties, I found solace in sewing my own clothes, gardening, macrame, stained glass, tole painting, re-furbishing antique furniture and writing poetry, etc.In my forties, my husband urged me to further pursue a passion I had for art; something beyond tole painting. Soon after, he was offered a time limited contract in Connecticut. Over three years, I took photographs at the local beach and used many of those to begin painting in earnest on canvas. Once back home in the mountains, my art moved on to the beauty of the everyday things that surrounded me. Since the songbirds that frequent my bird feeders are such an inspiration to me and I paint mostly during the winter months; I labeled my work under the auspices of Winter Wren Studio. That theme carried on, when during an unusually cold winter, a little wren on my window sill was consuming his peanut butter treat fast and furious. My mind drifted back to the desire I held since my daughter was born in the seventies to write a children's book. I quickly composed a poem about the little wren, but the illustrations were taking forever. Weeks later, in frustration, I decided to write something that only required text. That's how my Zoe Bird Mystery series began.I hope you enjoy viewing a few glimpses of my paintings and novels.Drop me a line if you care to share your thoughts.Vicky Lee Watkinsvickyleewatkins@gmail.com
