As communications director at Red Setter, I’m leading and creating comms activity for the agency and supporting our goal to raise the voice and value of design. I’m a strategist, a writer, a PR consultant, a content creator, a designer (*cough* apologies to all my actual designer, writer and strategist friends) and an all-round agency cheerleader. Having been an agency PR consultant (and having run my own agency), my focus has always been on delivering results and the best in client service. However due to being diagnosed with chronic illnesses in 2020, my job needed to change to reflect my health challenges. My new role was created in January 2021 and I feel incredibly lucky that out of challenging times, I’ve actually landed (and help create) an amazing role taking and using all my skills to the max. My career highlights of working with consumer brands, corporates and blue-chips include:- Winning ‘Newcomer of the Year’ in my first agency job (my trophy, my Oscar, is proudly displayed in my downstairs loo even though this was 100 PR years ago)- Getting more than my fair share of front-page (national) coverage in my years…there’s still nothing quite like it when you know you’ve got the right PR strategy and a bit of luck on your side- Obviously winning a number of PR campaign awards over the years (nice to brag)- Mentoring some excellent people who have gone on to rule the PR world - Helping to grow agencies - Landing a job at Red Setter and finding out that the design industry is the coolest and most exciting industry to be involved with #winning My career lowlights:- Getting dressed up for photo calls as a junior exec (does this still happen??)- Having a client burn me out (though it taught me a lot about boundaries) - Becoming unwell with chronic illness and wondering if I would have to leave the job I loved (so many positives have however come out of this time) In my career I’ve learnt that learning never stops. I’ve also learnt that working with brands you really believe in is absolutely key to giving your career in PR purpose. And even better than that, is working with the people behind these brands and companies, the amazing people you meet along the way.
