I am a BSN-prepared RN looking for opportunities to learn and provide care in a high-acuity setting. My passion for professional nursing began in high school when I went to a seminar hosted by a nurse practitioner. I was captivated by her experiences and wanted to go in that same direction. Caring for others drives me and my desire to learn and grow in my profession. I possess the endurance and resilience that is necessary to flourish in a critical care setting as well as obstetrics/NICU. I am always looking for feedback from others that have more experience and use that to strengthen my own skills. My hope for my nursing career is that I get to develop and display my skills and passion for patient care and to have a positive impact on my patient's experience in the hospital as well as pass on my knowledge to others. Ultimately my goal is to gain enough knowledge and expertise to become a professor for BSN/MSN students. Please reach out to me at victor.pistonetti@gmail.com.

Under the supervision of an experienced registered nurse, I am assuming a much more independent role in my preceptorship than in previous clinical rotations. I perform focused assessments, administer oral and IV medications as well as subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, and I also have had the opportunity to practice charting on my patients. My preceptor provides constant, valuable feedback on my performance which I utilize to strengthen all of my skills. Interacting with the patients is also a valuable skill with which I have had much practice. There are also opportunities to provide change-of-shift report to the oncoming nurses and reports to the unit receiving transfers. The experience has been very eye-opening and has enabled me to think more and more like a registered nurse.

In this position, I have the privilege of leading a class of 50+ college freshmen as they learn to navigate their first semester of college life. Every week I teach a class with a partner about topics such as time and money management, spirituality, and community/campus resources. I also have the opportunity to meet individually with my male students to gauge their progress and foster relationships with them. Ultimately, the goal of my position as a student leader is to promote campus culture and integrate our new students into the campus community.

I shadowed a nurse for 10 weeks during my ICU rotation. I cared for critically-ill patients by performing assessments, monitoring vitals, lab values, and trends in their data. Being exposed to these patients really showed me how much responsibility the nurse has to keep these patients alive. Every single patient I cared for except one was on a ventilator. And a majority of these patients were on multiple drips that required meticulous monitoring and titration. It was a fantastic experience and I really enjoyed caring for these patients.

Cared for and guided mothers and their families through the labor and delivery process. I assisted with births by coaching the patient through labor, administering medications, inserting Foley catheters, and interpreting fetal tones on the monitor. I also provided immediate care to the newborn, performed assessments on the mother postpartum, and monitored patients closely for complications in the postpartum period. Being able to care for these families at such a happy time in their lives was a privilege and it is my hope that I get to experience this as a registered nurse in my professional career.

Quick to learn new skills such as operation of an electronic pallet jack, scanning packages and using the computer system, and coordination with the team supervisor to bring new ideas on how to improve workflow within the warehouse. The job consisted of offloading packages weighing up to 75 pounds and organizing them by zip code which were then delivered by assigned drivers. The job was very fast-paced and I learned how to adapt to any changes in deliveries.
