About Victor Asaff Corona Vargas
I am a third-year student at the University of Texas at Austin majoring in Biology. I am currently part of the Freshman Research Initiative (FRI) program in the Microbe Hackers stream to teach first-year students the fundamentals of Synthetic Biology research. My research area involves analyzing engineered progenitor auxotrophs to investigate the function and significance of mutated purR genes involved in encoding for purine repressor proteins that regulate the decaffeination and xanthine salvage pathway in E. coli with guaB knocked out. In addition, I am also part of the Texas Interdisciplinary Plan (TIP) program involved in helping students in greater need by providing them with resources and support throughout college. After college, I plan on applying to medical school and pursuing a career as a Geriatrician to help the elderly with their health and well-being to ensure our older population is receiving the proper care they need.
