As Director of Small Business, I provide leadership and oversight for the Inclusive Procurement Council. I provide support and guidance to address the needs of business owners and executives who seek to grow their businesses in Birmingham/Jefferson County, Alabama. Clients that work with me benefit from valuable consulting that allows them to make connections, pursue greater opportunities, effectively address challenges that they face, and increase their pipeline for new business.

In this role, my primary focus was the growth and development of companies in the seven-county Birmingham region. During face to face business retention and expansion visits, valuable resources relating to capital access, and key relationships that support the achievement of critical business goals and objectives.

Oversee the activities of the African American Business Council, the Hispanic Business Council, and the Entrepreneurial Roundtables. Lead activities that will result in the maintaining of small and minority owned businesses in the Birmingham region.

Responsible for implementation of a workforce development plan which supports the attraction and retention of a highly skilled workforce. Supports economic development efforts which will increase high growth and high wage jobs in our seven-county region. Monitors and tracks the region’s high demand occupations, as well as the number and availability of experienced and qualified individuals living in the region, by job category. Works closely with colleges and universities throughout the seven-county region in areas relating to career placement, and career training. Obtains ongoing support from all educational institutions for implementation of the strategic plan for workforce development in the region. Coordinates efforts to improve existing partnerships between workforce development agencies, the business community, foundations, non-profits, and training providers. Works with all partners to affect synergy. Leverages critical relationships, with a goal of effective synchronization of workforce development and economic development initiatives. Supports educational initiatives which improve the entire educational system—from preschool through Postsecondary (P-16). Facilitates communication between education partners regarding critical student mastery requirements to achieve success in workforce development in the region. Represent the Birmingham Business Alliance by supporting the Birmingham Education Foundation (“BEF”). Serve as a member of the Birmingham Partners In Education (“PIE”) Advisory Board. Convene and Staff the Region 4 Workforce Development Council.Represent the Birmingham Business Alliance when called upon for public opportunities and comments for the media. Report to and support the work of the Vice President of Economic Development and Workforce.

Serve as Executive Producer for online television show content, and support arrangement of funding for feature films. Provide seed capital and upfront financing for special events.

Provide leadership to a staff of six, which include two directors, and three managers, and one administrative assistant. Our division is responsible for: Diversity Programs, including African American and Hispanic Business Councils and the Birmingham Diversity Summit; Business Research; Chamber publications; Existing Business Team; Workforce Initiatives (including Young Professional, aka "YP" Initiatives, Workforce Development, Education, and Community Development); Small Business Committee; Entrepreneur Roundtables; and Executive Women Roundtables. We also have responsibility to oversee and manage the Birmingham Innovation Group "B.I.G." Trip, which takes place on an annual basis. During this trip, cities are visited to review best practices for the benefit of our local community.

Vice President and System Manager for the Commercial Real Estate Loan Servicing Department and Section Leader for the Construction Loan Administration Department

Oversee Publishing Administration for various songwriters. Assisted with issues relating to collection of royalties, and provided business management services as a liaison between various publishing companies and record labels.

During my tenure at CapMark, in recognition of superior performance in the area of staff leadership and proficiency in financial management (including meeting all performance metrics with the highest scores company wide), I was promoted four times: From Financial Analyst, to Senior Team Member/Cash Management Analyst, to Assistant Servicing Manager, and finally to Servicing Manager-Associate. Within six months of the final promotion, I was recruited to Birmingham, Alabama to oversee the Commercial Real Estate financial and servicing operations at SouthTrust Bank. At CapMark, I held responsibility for oversight of all servicing operations for asset backed securitized loan portfolios which included billings, collections, payables and receivables. Also had oversight for special projects loans. This equated to total assets of over $4 billion. Prepared the monthly budget variance report, reviewed monthly performance measurements, approved departmental expenses and disbursements, and prepared the monthly controllable suspense explanations report. Reviewed and approved transactions prepared from the Strategy/McCracken system on a daily basis. As stated in the beginning of this section, I led the most effective and highest performing team within the organization. We met and exceeded all performance metrics on a consistent basis. Within six-months of my promotion to Associate, I was heavily recruited by SouthTrust, after being referred by a Senior Vice President who recognized my strong management, customer service, and administration skills, as well as my proficiency in proper use of a high-tech system (from the perspective of a user—not a programmer), and blending of these skills with the balance and finesse of a professional manager with a strong and proven background of leadership.
