I am an experienced project manager, researcher and teacher in the field of gender and youth studies. Alongside my work in the university I also work as a consultant researcher on projects related to youth advocacy, gender equality, feminism, and girls rights; having worked as a project manager and as a project lead as well as as a research assistant. I have worked successfully both collaboratively and independently on a number of research projects and I am open to being approached for consultancy work. I am fully media trained and have shared my expertise on local, national and international news outlets.About my day job: I am a Senior Lecturer/Associate Professor in the Interdisciplinary Institute for the Humanities where I am Course Director of MA Gender Studies. In 2015 I was awarded the prize for Excellence in Teaching. I am author of the book Girls Like This: Boys Like That, which was released with I.B. Tauris in 2018. Alongside my teaching and research I am passionate about community engagement, and have won awards for my academic work in the community. In 2019 I became a Senior Fellow of the HEA.I have experience teaching and supervision at doctoral, postgraduate, undergraduate and foundation year level and routinely provide teaching sessions for local schools (primary and secondary) and the wider community. My areas of expertise in teaching are around feminist research methods and knowledge production; cultural and political theory; gender theory and feminist activism. I sit on cross-faculty working groups such as Athena SWAN, DecoloniseUEA, and ResNet, and regularly contribute to university-wide EDI initiatives.I am on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Gender Studies, the Editorial Board of Boyhood Studies Journal and am an Executive Member of the Gender and Education Association. I was formally on the Steering Group and the Early Career Representative of the International Girls Studies Association. I have acted as a consultant for Plan UK and the Women's Equality Party.Before being awarded my doctorate in 2014 I was awarded an MA with Distinction in Media and Cultural Politics and a BA with First-Class Honours in the Politics and Sociology of Contemporary Culture, both from the University of East Anglia.As a working-class scholar I am committed to the flattening of hierarchies in knowledge production and providing opportunities for all. My pronouns are she/her and I am deeply committed to the project of trans liberation.
