The Genecology Project is an investigation of genecology, or experimental taxonomy, in Post-WWII Britain. As a Research Assistant, I was responsible for gathering publications written by researchers involved in genealogy research during this time period. After gathering and organizing the data in the form of PDFs, I was then responsible for turning these files into PDF texts, correcting them and uploading them into proprietary software that allows the user to annotate the text… Show more The Genecology Project is an investigation of genecology, or experimental taxonomy, in Post-WWII Britain. As a Research Assistant, I was responsible for gathering publications written by researchers involved in genealogy research during this time period. After gathering and organizing the data in the form of PDFs, I was then responsible for turning these files into PDF texts, correcting them and uploading them into proprietary software that allows the user to annotate the text, highlighting the researcher, the location of the research site, and his/her connections to other researchers. By providing this historical data to the Principal Investigator, he was then able to visually map connections to illustrate the research connections and draw larger philosophical conclusions about the way genecological knowledge was produced during that time. I had equal experience teaching individually as well as collaborating with professors and other TAs especially to match the lesson plan and teaching approach to the biological or bioethical concept. I had the opportunity to teach biology to major and non-major students as well as bioethics for upper division students from a wide variety of backgrounds. Whether in the classroom or in the lab, I provided my students with many varied resources each semester. By doing so I was able to support the success of all engaged students, regardless of learning style or background. Teaching was an exciting challenge because I was continually learning and searching for a way to improve my performance in order to provide the best learning experience for my students. In order to excel at supporting student understanding, I experimented with assignment and instruction types in order to adapt to the specific needs of my students. As a new TA, I often reached out to experienced TAs and professors; I benefitted professionally and personally from their wisdom and support. Show less
