As an Applied Molecular and Biology and Biotechnology student at University of Delaware, I am currently gaining industry experience by working as an assistant scientist at Hygiena through the biotechnology practicums offered by my major. At Hygiena, I assist in various food biotechnology assays to develop and validate testing methods for microbial and allergen contamination in products. I am also conducting undergraduate research in the Viral Ecology and Informatics Lab (VEIL) on marine bacteriophage replication genes. I am working on an undergraduate thesis at VEIL supported by a grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences in order to graduate with a Bachelor's Degree with Distinction and publish my work to further the advancement of my field. My introduction to research began at Delaware Technical Community College, where I received my associate’s degree in biological sciences and worked on sequencing soil microbial metagenomes. After graduation, I plan to start my career in the research and development sector of a biotechnology or biopharmaceutical company. After gaining some additional industry experience, I intend to go back to school for a graduate degree to progress further in my field.
