As an avid cricket fan, my fascination for the field of biomechanics and movement neuroscience was present even before the terms became predominant technical jargons in my life. However, it was mechanical engineering and mechanism design that drew me towards a career in research. Today, however, I am lucky to be working on interdisciplinary research combining the two fields.I am current pursuing my PhD at IIT Madras to design and develop a prosthetic hand by taking inspiration from the structure and control of the human hand. To achieve this goal, I have had to gain experience and “expertise” in - Mechanism synthesis & CAD modelling- Anatomy and physiology of the hand- Neuroscience of Movement ControlAlong this journey, I have also had the opportunity to work on hand exoskeletons for rehabilitation purposes. As a self-assessed purist, I strongly believe that interdisciplinary approach is the only way for the biomedical needs of the many to be solved.
