Going back in my memory lane, what has interested me always is predicting Human Behavior. Born in a nuclear family and in a metro, I spent more time watching behavioral aspects of people from various walks of life. Probably that led me to study philosophy, psychology, and even astrology to understand why people talk one thing but do another thing. In capital markets, I used chart studies with technical indicators to analyze if "what is talked" and "what is done" in the markets correlate. Surprisingly most of the time, the action in the market happens first and then people widely talk about it. So the edge for successful investing or trading is in deciphering this complexity of human behavior, which I have been able to do with fair amount of success since 2005. Apart from technical analysis, I understand and respect various fundamental valuation metrics taught in MBA schools and make use of them at right junctures. To sum it up I use every analytical tool at my disposal at varying degree, to know this minute what is going to happen the next minute. As every analyst I began my career searching for the “Holy Grail” to make money in the markets. But soon I realized that whatever trading system (Holy Grail) I create, it can never be Verified as fool proof but can be easily Falsified at any time by one failure. Thanks to Nassim Taleb who popularized Karl Popper’s Black Swan theory on scientific truths and George Soros who, extended this to judge the behavior of human beings in making economic decisions through his theory of Reflexivity. When it became clear that by any amount of testing I will not be able to perfect my system, I focused on methods that will protect my investments when it failed and to make the best out of it, when it worked. I am now aware that any investment decision is derived from the limited knowledge one has about the ever changing Truth and it is this awareness that will create wealth in long run than the knowledge itself.
