I have 20+ years of experience in the technology industry leading product and engineering teams in startups, mature organizations, and research centers. I have always been drawn to the Japanese concept of Ikigai – “a reason for being”, that intersection of what you love, what the world needs, what you are good at and can get paid for. That sweet spot for me, and how I measure success, is leading at the confluence of technology, data science and social impact – to improve lives by combining ‘Product with Purpose’ and ‘Tech for Good.’Building on an early software engineering career at Microsoft, I gained expertise in building scalable platforms and teams at Expedia as it grew from a small group within Microsoft to one of the largest sellers of travel in the world. I co-founded and worked at startups where I learned customer empathy, built V0-1 products, mobile apps, and explored the power of data science. Prior to joining Gates Ventures, I directed technology strategy at Fred Hutch Cancer Center to transform healthcare research through technology, the cloud, data science and strategic partnerships spanning bench to the bedside.I have volunteered for organizations promoting education of underprivileged children in India; dabbled with short films on issues like mental health and education in the US; and helped children explore their creativity through visual storytelling camps.
