As a Nurse Project Coordinator, I have been recognized as an initiator of bringing best practices to an organization. I am passionate about innovative ideas and incorporating mental health awareness/education in the workplace. My emphasis in project coordination at Novant has been in reduction of trauma in patients by decreasing restraints, implementing Trauma Informed Care practices and evidenced based programming. Organizing projects, educating, implementing and seeing them come to fruition for improvement in patient care has been really rewarding. I also have managed quality outcomes data including restraint use in the hospital and nursing practices. This included auditing, aggregating data and reporting outcomes to leadership in order improve patient care and to meet regulatory compliance. As a Nurse Educator, I began educating in my career as preceptor and in New Nurse Orientation while working as a direct care nurse. In the residential setting, I not only instructed nurses but also staff in mental health and medication administration. Later, as an assistant nurse manager, I educated multidisciplinary staff on Trauma Informed Care and TIC clinical practices and new programming curriculum on the Behavioral Health Unit. Most recently, I have really enjoyed being certified in 2014 as a Mental Health First Aid instructor and have educated both community professionals and community members in Mental Health for the past 6 years. Initially, I began my career in direct care on behavioral health working with children and adolescents and then received some experience in the residential setting where I developed the nursing department and infection control department. I initially managed the most intensive unit and then directed the level III units as well as the group homes. In both settings, I created policies and procedures as well as worked in utilization review.
