Ville.Viitaniemi@gmail.com. An experienced computer vision researcher and software designer with a demonstrated history of working in the academia and industry. A Doctor of Science (tech.) degree from Aalto University. Just started as AI Scientist intern at Silo.AI working on computer vision and image annotation. This is a way to polish and update my AI skills after a longish hiatus from working life. My core competence revolves around automatic recognition of image and video content, and putting the resulting information into use. The subject has been my professional bread-and-butter for fifteen years. I still feel passionate about using image processing and artificial intelligence methods for turning visual measurements into useful information.I did research on the subject in Aalto University during years 2000-2014. There I acquired first my masters degree and, then a doctoral one investigating visual category recognition systems. This involved implementing the investigated methods as computer software (mostly C++, also Perl), measuring and verifying the methods with large data collections. After my years in academia, I have designed and implemented novel computer vision software systems for private companies. Lately, I have been updating my competence especially in machine learning, data science and deep networks with help of on-line courses and resources.Recently, I have also explore the trendy topic of full stack development, and enrolled in a half year continual education program in University of Turku. Programming using modern tools and methods is fun! The program ended last fall with a two month capstone project in developing an academic database system prototype (PostgreSQL, Python, Django, JavaScript, React, Material-UI).What comes to my professional future, I'm open to many kinds of options - in addition to the type of work I have done before. For example learning and applying machine intelligence in domains outside computer vision. Also other kind of IT and programming work, e.g. full stack, is an option. I am open to ideas, not limited to traditional form of paid labour. However, re-location away from Turku is not an option.
