Profile bio

About Vimbai Tembo

When I was nine years old my single mother was diagnosed with a pandemic disease, she realised that she did not have much time to live and began to teach me how to be independent and self-reliant. Being the only girl in a family of six boys I learnt at an early age how to serve and care for my siblings. As I grew older I participated in various community service projects and ever since then, I have dedicated my life to working in humanitarian projects with various non-governmental organisations. I have experience in Project Management mainly through establishing and running the administrative office for LEAD (Linkages for Economic Advancement of the Disadvantaged, a local non-governmental organization with the objective to enhance socio-economic development, food security and market linkages for small holder livestock farmers) in a poverty stricken district of Zimbabwe. In the administrative role at LEAD, I worked closely with the country coordinator to implement several community development programs funded by international donors such as the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Coordinating Committee of the Organization for Voluntary Service (COSV) and World Food Program(WFP). On the onset of the projects I successfully built sustainable relationships with community leaders and worked as a team with stakeholders such as the local government officials , agricultural extension officers, ministry of health officers and provincial officers. I gained a thorough understanding of project administrative procedures as I managed the administrative office including supervising lower level administrative staff. Presently I am gaining much experience in data analysis, program evaluation and project management through experiential learning opportunities offered by the BYU MPA program. I am also a Senior Project Officer for Grantwell and my role is to lead the project team in the evaluation and allocation of grants to qualifying applicants. Concurrently I have the pleasure to work as a License Processor for BYU and use my skills to make licensing a more efficient process within the University.
