Under the RGSTC-TIFAC-MSME Scheme:(Website:http://www.tifac.org.in/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=954&Itemid=1447) It is a scheme by Rajiv Gandhi Science & Technology Commission (RGSTC) andTechnology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC), Department of Science &Technology, Government of India for providing technical support to the micro small andmedium enterprises (MSMEs) for leveraging the capabilities of students and faculty ofengineering & technical institutions. Through this scheme, the students and faculty areproviding technical support to the otherwise technologically deficient MSMEs.The scheme consists of two phases, wherein Phase I (2 months) is for identification ofproblem statement and designing of a proposed solution. In Phase II (6 months), for which onlytop 3 groups from the college are selected, is for development, implementation, and testing ofthe designed systems.The project ‘Design and Development of Plasma Arc Cutter for Parting Red Hot Metal’ hasbeen selected for Phase II.Project Description:i. Design and Development of Plasma Arc Cutter for Parting Red Hot Metal:A) Combined the two operations of cold metal cutting and heating of workpiece to forging temperatures into one.B) Designed and developed system for cutting workpieces heated to temperatures as highas 1400 C.C) Designed and developed the feeding system for the pre-heated workpiece.ii. Implementation Lean Manufacturing tools: Determined the OEE of CNC machines.
