Project focused on detecting the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA in a mutant version of the model organism C. elegans. Capillary electrophoresis with laser induced fluorescence detection was used; wanted to determine if unknown alternative synthesizing biological pathways for GABA existed. Overall aim was to assist in developing future drug targets for those with related neurological conditions (e.g. epilepsy).

EBICS Scholar: In association with faculty and students from both MIT and GA TechTo better understand the emergent properties of the mammalian spinal cord immunohistochemistry based techniques were used to; confirm presence of neurologically relevant cells after being put in vitro, quantify subsequent mean process length given time in the new environment, & quantify the relative amount of each cell type over time. Work aimed to further develop & optimize an engineered neuromuscular system that could exhibit more behavioral complexity plus a greater degree of autonomy.
