I was also responsible for database development in MySQL and PHP creating an interactive intranet site to encourage communication among employees, and another to present GIS data and metadata to internal data users. Due to my understanding of the respective roles of the Department's Environmental Affairs and Tourism branches, I also acted as an intermediary between the respective business unit owners and the consultants that were hired to develop Wildlife Permitting and Tourist Guide Registration systems respectively. My role was to ensure that user requirements were effectively translated into technical specifications.

The work included hands-on work with animals in the park as well as managerial duties. I also enhanced animal management in the park through the creation of a database to monitor animal movements between Bayworld and other husbandry institutions and breeding activity. Snake demonstrations were given on a regular basis and I responded to reports of 'problem' snakes in the Port Elizabeth area when required.
