Whenever new start employees would pass their PCV test I would be the next step on the road to service driving. I would provide a tailored 5-day course in which we would go over route learning, customer service and sharing my experiences to make the safest drivers possible. I would also perform both covert and overt driving assessments on the road either randomly or targeted. If any retraining was required, I would be the one to create, implement and deliver an effective and efficient training program. As a traffic supervisor the main goal is to oversee and manage the operation of a 50-bus garage with around 120 staff members. This includes but is not limited to; ensuring staff are on time, presentable and fit to carry out their duties. Performing random alcohol/drug tests, making sure that vehicles depart on schedule, carrying out audits on all aspects of the operation, monitor and (when necessary) intervene to maintain a punctual service as best as possible, liaise with engineering staff regarding their requirements and ensuring our fleet is safe and road legal. Both of these roles are almost completely self-managing and self-motivating which I exceed at continuously. They also required me to always be thinking about the best interests of the company and our stakeholders whilst always being mindful of resources and ensuring that none are wasted.

After successfully obtaining my full category D licence I started driving London buses out of Barking garage on routes tendered out and managed by TfL. When beginning a shift, a full check of the vehicle was carried out each day to ensure it is fit for service. Out on the road my main responsibility was to keep my passengers and other road users safe. Buses are dangerous vehicles; this was a hugely safety critical role. Customer service was also a massive part of my role, ensuring each person felt welcomed and valued whilst being able to diffuse and resolve abnormal situations on a regular basis.

I loved my time here. I received 2 Jack Petchey awards here for my service. I started with the basic cleaning out and caring for animals but over the years became a team leader running groups of children ensuring they are safe, having a good time and learning all they could. I ran a few work experience placements for Secondary school students and at weekends played a pivotal role running the farm at weekends as there were no paid staff at those times.

Opening the office/yard around 0500hrs to receive glass/frame deliveries, ensure that fitters are prepper for the job and allocate work accordingly. In the office receive jobs from the sales team and process them. This included accurately assessing the surveyors report, cross referencing everything to ensure no mistakes have been made. Once I was sure all is okay, I would place orders and allocate the appropriate amount of time to each fitter always trying to remain 3-4 weeks ahead with work booked in. I would also be the customers point of call dealing with any queries or problems that arose, sometimes also carrying out site inspections.

My role at Matalan varied often. Some days I would work in the secure cash office tallying up the cash and card takings from the previous days trade. Sometimes this would be seamless but other times it would take part problem solving and part investigations to make sure the figures I had matched what was expected from the systems own expectations. Other days I would be manning tills ensuring excellent customer service, process returns/refunds and do my best to defuse any potentially explosive situations. Once the store had closed, I would be part of the team tidying the shop floor back to a model store standard. There were many occasions in which I worked in the stock room receiving and processing deliveries as well as the occasional overnight stock takes. Whilst in this job I also had some great opportunities up and down the country setting up new stores or completely gutting old stores and transforming them into model stores.

This was a very challenging role as many of the potential customers had sold or bought property with the company many years ago. Despite this I still had an excellent record of gaining new leads throughout my time here.
