Primary role consists of designing commercial HVAC systems for various customers, ranging from K-12 schools and college campuses to offices and high-rise buildings. Types of projects range from tenant improvement jobs to full HVAC designs from the ground up (new construction). Work closely with the sales and project management teams to ensure project scope is being met and mechanical plans are completed and submitted to the city ahead of schedule. Secondary role consists of analyzing energy usage data and designing photovoltaic systems, primarily for K-12 schools and college campuses. Day to day workload includes, but is not limited to: - Mechanical Design (HVAC systems include package units, split systems, water-source heat pumps, VAV, heat recovery, chiller & boiler systems, etc.) – AutoCAD Software used for mechanical design. - Mechanical Plans – Estimate, construction and permit sets - Load Calculations – Currently using Carrier’s Hourly Analysis Program (HAP) - Title 24 Documentation - Site Visits – Mechanical Audits, survey as-built conditions. - Solar Design – Helioscope software used for solar design. - Solar Plans – Construction and permit sets. - Energy Savings Calculations – Energy Toolbase Software used to generate project cost, calculate savings, and generate simple payback plan. - Utility Data Analysis – Utility API software used to analyze utility meter data.

Collaborate with a team of energy solutions engineers to develop energy performance contracts for commercial companies and government agencies. Worked on both the development side and the performance side of projects. Duties stem from those as an intern, but with more responsibility and accountability. Additional responsibilities include, but not limited to:• Utility Analyses – Analyzing utility bills and rates for trends of excessive energy use. Deriving energy consumption and demand utility rates to use as a baseline rate when calculating energy and monetary savings.• IGA Report Writing – Developing IGA reports for various energy projects. Managing the information input to the report by various engineers, Accountable for the content of the final report submitted the customer. • Performing Energy Audits – Collect and review original engineering drawing which include the mechanical equipment of the facilities being audited. Examine these drawing to determine where each piece of equipment is located on site, which rooms the equipment is serving, and specifications found in the mechanical schedules. All information is organized into an excel book and taken on site to carry out the actual audit.

Assist professional engineers in developing energy solutions projects. Focus on learning the following:• Writing Performance Contracts – Understanding the structure of the contracts, what information they should consist of, correct language to ensure the contract may be met.• Performing Energy Audits – Understanding methods of energy auditing, including what information must be recorded from HVAC equipment, lighting fixtures, water fixtures, etc. during the audit. Identify various types of HVAC equipment, including packaged HVAC Units (gas, electric, both), air handlers, heat pumps, split systems Makeup Air units, chillers, boilers, etc.• Energy Conservation Measures – Understanding where energy savings can me found and identifying what type of replacement equipment may be used to yield maximum monetary savings.• Measurement and Verification – Understanding how to verify energy and monetary savings that occur from performance contracts to ensure that guaranteed savings are met.

Process applications of portable engines and equipment submitted for the Portable Equipment Registration Section (PERS). Evaluate applications. Determine program eligibility. Calculate emissions and establish emission limitations. Determine appropriate operating conditions. Perform program accounting within the agency’s database. Create company accounts. Generate registration packages. Interact with applicants, air district staff, and PERS engineers/specialists.
